Ben Brantley writes for New York Times: “A Steady Rain,” which opened on Tuesday night at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theater, is probably best regarded as a small, wobbly pedestal on which two gods of the screen may stand in order to be worshiped. Not that Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman are striking Olympian poses in Keith Huff’s 90-minute, two-character melodrama, directed by John Crowley. On the contrary, playing a couple of all-too-human Chicago cops whose friendship is direly tested, these strapping actors work hard to tamp down associations with their super-heroic franchise film roles, that of James Bond (Mr. Craig) and the X-Man mutant known as Wolverine (Mr. Jackman).
For the record, both are just fine in their parts, and in the case of Mr. Craig, almost unrecognizable with a milquetoast mustache and cowed mien, more than fine. But it’s hard to avoid thinking that had they chosen to recite the alphabet in counterpoint (which might have been more fun), their joint appearance would still generate ticket sales unknown for a straight play since Julia Roberts appeared in Richard Greenberg’s “Three Days of Rain” (which had a cast of three instead of two) three years ago.

What, they don't like the funny?
From AP: Malaysia has banned U.S. box office hit "Bruno" by Sacha Baron Cohen because it highlights gay life and has gay sex scenes, an official said Tuesday.
"Bruno" — following Baron Cohen's hit "Borat" — is centered around the adventures of a flamboyant gay fashion journalist from Austria.
An official from Malaysia's Film Censorship Board said the movie was considered unacceptable because of its story line, offensive language, jokes and racy nature. She declined to be named, citing protocol.
"It's banned because the story is based on gay life ... There are a lot of sex scenes," she said. "It's contrary to our culture."
Gay sex, or "carnal intercourse against the order of nature," is punishable by up to 20 years in jail and whipping in Malaysia. Sex toys, politically incorrect comments and jokes about religion also irked the censors, she said.

From Daily Mail: The cast of Friends are to be reunited once again – for a movie version of the hit TV show, it emerged today. The six main stars have agreed to move onto the big screen following the success of the Sex And The City film at the box office.
It means Jennifer Aniston, 40, Courteney Cox, 45, Lisa Kudrow, 46, Matt LeBlanc, 42, Matthew Perry, 40, and David Schwimmer, 42, will be back on the same set for the first time since the show ended in 2004.
Studio bosses from Warner Brothers are prepared to pay a fortune to the stars, who were being paid six figures an episode by the tenth and final season of Friends. They have also drafted in the show’s creators David Crane and Marta Kauffman to write and produce the film, due in cinemas in the summer of 2011.

***The Polanski Arrest from People.com: Director Roman Polanski, who fled the United States in 1978 after pleading guilty to having sex with a 13-year-old girl in California, has been arrested in Switzerland.
In a statement, the Zurich Film Festival, where Polanski, 76, was due to receive a lifetime achievement award, said the Oscar-winning director was held on his arrival in Switzerland Saturday.
A U.S. warrant for his arrest was issued when Polanski left the country more than 30 years ago before his sentencing. Polanski, a French citizen, has never returned to the U.S. since then and has sought to have the case against him dismissed.
The Swiss Federal Department of Justice and Police, which confirmed Polanski's arrest on an outstanding American warrant, added that a decision to extradite him to the U.S. is subject to judicial procedure.
"Why now?," a friend of Polanski told PEOPLE on Sunday. "We don't understand. Roman has been to Switzerland before so we don't understand why he's been arrested this time."
Polanski fled the U.S. to avoid the charges. Now Samantha Geimer says continual discussion of the details of her case decades later by prosecutors “causes harm to me, my husband and children”.
Roman Polanksi had sought dismissal of her charges on January 21, but the court said he needs to appear in person. Geimer says that’s a “a cruel joke”. Polanski fled the U.S. in 1978 and hasn’t been in the country since. In 2002 he won the Oscar for The Pianist.
Greimer, now 45, reportedly told the court in a written statement: “If Polanski cannot stand before the court to make this request, I, as the victim, can and I, as the victim do. I have urged that this matter come to a formal legal end. I have urged that the district attorney and the court dismiss these charges.”
She had always admitted to her crime in where she wrote the word Pig in blood after stabbing actress Sharon Tate 16 times. Tate, 8 months pregnant, had begged Atkins to spare her baby to which Atkins said "I told her I didn't have any mercy on her."
